I've downloaded and
installed the software, now I just can't get started.
The easiest way to get started is to go to the help menu,
and click contents. You will see instructions how to use the help for FB.
Tip: Make sure to maximize the help so it fills the whole screen. To do
this click the maximize button at the top right of the help window.
When the Farriers Basic program opens
certain forms, I can't see all the fields. Why?
This occurs when you have your display set to 800x600
and Large fonts. To correct this, change your display settings to 800x600
and Small fonts. Go to your desk top and press F1 for help on changing
your display settings.
When I open Farriers Basic, I have
trouble seeing the field labels on most forms. They are covered by other
objects, and are illegible. Why?
You are probably running your display at 640x480, and to
correct it the display must be set to run at 800x600. You may also be
running at 800x600 but with large fonts defined, if this is the case
change this setting to small fonts.
How do I back-up my files?
You should think seriously about purchasing a tape back
up or a Zip drive (portable). The Farriers Basic 5.8 program is too large
for floppies any more.
But you can use the program described below:
In version 5.8 we have sent you a complete back up
software package. It is customized to the Farriers Basic package. You just
click the Backup/Restore menu choice in the File menu in Farriers Basic
5.8. After it opens you need to close the Farriers Basic program. Then you
follow the step by step instructions to back up. ALWAYS RUN THE VERIFY
PART OF THE BACK UP PROGRAM. This will compare the files on your hard
drive with the files in the back up set. Be sure to back up often you
never know when your hard disk may crash, if you have several backup
copies you have a better chance of recovering!
Any other suggestions to help me learn
the program?
Yes. Use the online Tutorials. They display in your
browser window, and will probably answer most, if not all, of your
questions. These tutorials are exactly like running the Farriers Basic
program except the tutorials have step by step text instructions on the
screen at all times telling you exactly what to do. So even if you are a
Computer beginner you will be able to easily learn the Farriers Basic
program.

Why do I get a Keyviolation error?
If you receive this error it means you are trying to create two
identical records.
If you receive this error : After clicking
the New Invoice button:
1. Then you need to open the All Invoices form in the Invoicing menu.
2. Then choose search by invoice number. Enter in a 1 or some other digit.
3. Now press the Last Record button on the Database Navigator at the top
of the form.
4. Note the last invoice number.
5. Open the Set up form in the File menu.
6. Click the Invoice number button.
7. Change the invoice number to one greater than the invoice number you
saw in the All Invoices form. Click OK.
If you receive this error : After inserting a
new line in an invoice
After you have entered a new horse and procedure or material in an
invoice.
1. You will need to decide which line is a duplicate and delete it.
2. To delete a line you need to make sure that the entire record is
selected.
3. Then press the Ctrl key on your keyboard hold it down and press the
Delete key on your keyboard.
If you receive this error :After inserting a
new Client
After clicking the Ok button in the New Client Dialog in the Client &
Horse form
1. You have tried to insert a client with the same code as a client that
already exists.
2. You should delete the new record with the Delete button a the top of
the form.
3. If you are not able to delete the new client and are stuck in a in
escapable loop. You can press Ctrl+Alt+Delete on your keyboard. Then
choose the basic45 and click the End Task button.
If you receive this error :After inserting a
new Horse
You are trying to insert a horse name that is already in the database.
1. You need to delete the horse and re enter him with a different name
that is not already in the horse database.
If you receive this error : After inserting a
new appointment
1. You are trying to insert an appointment on the same day at the same
time as an appointment that already exists.
2. You need to increment the start time so that it is not the same as
another appointment on that day.
How do I place my Logo on the Invoice?
To place your logo on the Invoice you need to either scan your logo
your self or take your logo to someone who can scan your logo for you.
When you scan your logo you need to save it as logo1.bmp. This is a
windows bitmap file format for pictures.
Place the file on a floppy disk to take home. Then open the Windows
explorer by RIGHT clicking the Windows Start button then left click
Explore.
Then place the floppy drive in your floppy drive. Select the floppy drive
in the left frame, you should now see the logo1.bmp file in the right
frame. Select it with the mouse then left click the Edit menu at the top
of the Windows Explorer, then choose Copy.
Now locate the Farriers Basic folder if you installed to the default
folder it will be C:\Fbasic. Select the folder where the Farriers Basic
program is installed (on the left) the select the Edit menu choice again
at the top of the Windows Explorer then choose Paste.
Here you should receive a dialog that says the file logo1.bmp already
exists do you want to over write it? Select yes. If you did not receive
this dialog you either do not have the logo1.bmp in the C:\Fbasic folder
or you copied it to the wrong folder.
You can test it by opening the Farriers Basic program and then selecting
Print from the menu then Individual Invoices. After the Individual
Invoices form opens choose a valid invoice and press the preview button
you should now see your logo on the invoice.
